OUR HOMEGROWN COMMUNITY STARTS A NEW CHAPTER WITH
THE GREEN VALLEY FARM PRESERVE.
The summer has whisked by and we want to provide a brief update on our activities. We have been working hard to assemble a consortium of farmers and restaurateurs to craft a business plan and vision for the Green Valley Farm Preserve. We are making excellent progress, but more work still remains.
The long term vision includes not only the development of the farm lands for the growing of high quality, locally produced products, but also for the construction of a permanent building, a “Farmstand”, that will be the center of the new Farm Preserve. The Farmstand will provide an area where our local produce and artisan products will be available for sale as well as a place to stage our weekly farmers’ market. The Farmstand will also be a local gathering place to grab a cup of coffee, share a quick meal, and enjoy the opportunity to connect with the community. Envision a place for everyday that is not an everyday place!
As the Green Valley Agricultural Conservancy (GVAC) Board reviews plans for 2016, it has became clear that we need more time to develop and finance this effort and the new Green Valley Farm Preserve. We are excited for this dream to become a reality....to have a community place where our local artisan goods and farm produce are available daily, and where we can gather on Saturdays for our Totally Local Farmers Market. The Farm Preserve is the next step in creating community and preserving the rural feeling of Green Valley while supporting and energizing our regional farming system.
With that said, we are not hosting a weekly farmers market in the summer of 2016, but will host two market festival events in 2016, one in the early Summer and one in the Fall to celebrate our local farming and artisan heroes.
We would like all of our friends to continue to support our farmers at their local stands while we continue our work to make the Farm Preserve a reality.
Please watch our Facebook and Website page for our special Summer and Fall Festival events for 2016!
Many thanks to everyone for your enthusiasm and support....and please look forward to exciting happenings for Green Valley in 2016!!
